Sun Microsystems has published details of a multi-year agreement with Fujitsu
Siemens to distribute Sun's Solaris OS with selected Primergy servers.
The agreement will enable Fujitsu Siemens to offer pre-configured
Solaris-based Primergy systems and related support services direct from its
factory for the first time.
The partners said that they would work together to certify technologies based
on Solaris and Primergy hardware and to secure support from independent software
and hardware vendors.
The deal brings the number of x86/x64 systems supporting Solaris 10 to 950.
Rich Green, executive vice president of software at Sun, said: "By expanding
the Solaris footprint we are opening the door for companies, especially those in
the public sector, financial services, telecoms, retail and healthcare, to
access the advanced scalability, reliability and virtualisation features unique
to Solaris."
