Microsoft announced today it has acquired UK mapping firm Multimap for an undisclosed sum.

The purchase gives Microsoft location and mapping technology that sits beside its existing offerings such as Virtual Earth, Live Search, Windows Live services, MSN and the aQuantive advertising platform.
