Stocks of Nintendo's Wii consoles are reportedly running low in the run up to Christmas.

High street retailers in the UK are reporting that it is difficult to get enough products to meet customer demand.

"Wii consoles are selling out as soon as new stock arrives," said a spokesman for Woolworths.

Nintendo stated that it is aware that the consoles are in high demand and is doing "everything possible" to increase shipments.

Wii Sports, which comes free with the console, scooped six Baftas at this year's game awards.

According to figures from sales monitoring website VG Chartz, Nintendo's Wii became the best-selling games console in the world in August.
