Toshiba recalls 142,000 AC adapters

Component may cause portable DVD player to overheat

Written by Ian Williams

Toshiba and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission have announced the voluntary recall of about 142,000 Toshiba AC adapters sold with the firms SD-P1600 portable DVD players.

There is a danger that the AC adapters can fail, causing the DVD player to overheat and posing a burn hazard to consumers.

Toshiba has received two reports of minor damage to the bottom of the DVD player, but no injuries have been reported.

The manufacturer said that the players were manufactured in China and sold in the US between January 2005 and April 2006, and that it is the ADPV16 adapter which is affected.

Consumers are advised to stop using the AC adapters immediately and contact Toshiba customer support for a replacement.
