SAP still studying on Oracle's legal attack

Lawyers take their sweet time

Written by Tom Sanders in California

SAP subsidiary Tomorrownow is still busy reviewing a legal complaint that Oracle filed last month, the company said in a press release on Monday.

Tomorrownow provides third party support for Peoplesoft and JD Edwards software. Both products were acquired by Oracle in 2005.

Oracle on 22 March sued SAP, alleging that its German rival engaged in corporate espionage by illegally downloading support materials from the company's servers. The documents are protected by copyright law and are available only to customers with current support subscriptions, Oracle alleged. The database vendor is demanding unspecified damages.

SAP has yet of file a public response to the complaints, but as Monday's press release indicated, it will do so on its on time schedule.

"We are still reviewing the matter and until we have a chance to more fully understand the allegations, it would not be prudent to comment on the pending litigation other than to make it clear to our customers, prospects, investors, employees, and partners that SAP will aggressively defend against the claims made by Oracle in the lawsuit," the company staid in its statement.
