The long-awaited
Apple
TV set-top box appears to be shipping to customers, nearly three weeks after
the device's original target date.
Users who pre-ordered the device are claiming to have received notice from
Apple that the
units have been shipped from the factory and will reach users as early as 23
March.
Apple's online store currently states that any Apple TV purchased online will
ship in three to five business days.
The company did not respond to requests for confirmation or comment from
vnunet.com.
Apple TV has been generating a steady buzz since the
first
prototype was unveiled by Steve Jobs in September. Jobs revealed further
information on the device in January during his
MacWorld Expo
keynote.
Apple had set February as the target date for the Apple TV to ship to
customers, but rumours began to circulate in mid-February that the box would be
delayed.
Apple told
vnunet.com
that the device was
still on
schedule to meet Jobs's deadline, only to do an about face two weeks later
and announce that the Apple TV
would be
delayed.
