Administrators at MCR make over 400 staff redundant and issued closing down sales at 129 stores of clothing retailer Ethel Austin and sister company Au Naturale.
Over 400 staff were made redundant at the company's distribution centre with a further 65 positions gone in the head office effectively immediately. Administrators confirmed 129 stores were loss making but has not ruled out a buyer is still being sought.
Ethel Austin was placed in administration for the second time in three years earlier this week.
Administrators Geoff Bouchier, Philip Duffy and David Whitehouse were appointed to the company which has a national network of 300 stores including some outlets in branches of the Co-op.
"MCR is now conducting a parallel strategy. All stores are to enter into a sale campaign commencing today while we continue to seek a purchaser for the companies businesses,” stated Bouchier.
Ethel Austin and its sister company Au Naturale employ over 3,700 people.
