Some of the UK's most influential corporate accountants are gearing up for a high-profile summit meeting hosted by the CIoT.

In the wake of an election in which tax was a key plank of party manifestos, industry figures from the UK's biggest companies will be discussing how the tax framework can be a key contributor to business success at the CIoT Commerce & Industry Group's annual conference on 16 September.

Group tax chiefs giving their views will include Barclays' Ian Menzies-Conacher, Helen Jones, senior VP of global tax at GlaxoSmithKline, Paul Morton from Reed Elsevier, Rio Tinto's Chris Lenon and Jeff Connell, Shell's group tax reporting manager.

"The importance of tax to business can be readily understood from the UK Government’s recent responses to the representations on tax policy made by business in recent years," the CIoT said.

"It must be the business tax practitioner’s aim to ensure that the business or businesses they work for optimise their tax positions and effectively manage their relationship with revenue authorities."
