The IFRS Foundation has recruited Keith Peterka to join its recently created SMEs implementation group.
The foundation is an independent not-for-profit organisation tasked with creating a set of International Financial Reporting Standards through its standard setting body the International Accounting Standards Board.
The US will make a final decision in 2011 on whether it would adopt IFRS, according to Mary Schapiro, the Securities and Exchange chairwoman.
In his new role Peterka will work to support global adoption of IFRS for SMEs and to monitor implementation.
Peterka currently works at Mayer Hoffman, one of the largest accountancy firms in the US.
Since joining the business in 2008 he has focused on IFRS, fair value accounting and auditing.
