HM Revenue and Customs has been criticised for guidance it has released to assist homosexual and transgender taxpayers.

The 20-page document has been labelled by critics an unnecessary use of taxpayers' money. It advises people in civil partnerships about their tax allowance and inheritance tax thresholds, according to The Telegraph.

It also gives advice to transgender people about claiming pensions under their old or new gender.

Matthew Elliott, chief executive of the pressure group TaxPayers' Alliance, said: 'HMRC is meant to produce simple, clear guidance for everyone, not spend extra money going out of their way to target particular minorities.'

5,000 copies of the booklet were printed at a cost of £1,536, and will be distributed at Pride London, the gay festival and march that takes place on July 4.

HMRC publishes a gay and lesbian booklet

I personally think this very unnecessary.there are other pressing issues HMRC should concentrate on...It is a waste of tax payers' money and this shouldn't be encouraged.

Waste of taxpayers' money

Sorry, but these booklets should be given to those who need and request them, not given away to all and sundry at a street party.
Most will be thrown away.

I'll bet that there is a reprint because the revenue will have run out of the booklets.

A fool and our money is easily parted!

That IS a waste of money.

Acid

Do HMRC employees pay tax on their free LSD or is this necessarily consumed in the performance of their duties? I wonder sometimes what will they come up with next?

Poor use of taxpayers money

Whatever next - I just despair at the waste of public money by HMRC! They chase us relentlessly for our hard earned taxes, and then throw it out of the window!

What a waste of money!

Yet another example of political correctness gone mad. Apart from the printing costs, how many man days were spent producing the booklet?
