The City of London Overseas Anti-Corruption Unit has claimed its first scalp, after a finance director pleaded guilty to trying to bribe a Ugandan official.

Neils Jorgen Tobiasen, the FD and MD for British security company CBRN, made the plea at Southwark Crown Court and will be sentenced at a later date.

Anti-corruption minister John Hutton said, ‘This is the first of what I hope will be many victories for the unit.’

This is the first successful prosecution since the law changed in 2001 which makes it an offence to bribe foreign public officials. It is also the first successful case brought forward by the OACU.
