Revenue recruits 500 'tax credits' staff

The new centre will handle complaints from tax credits claimants and is due to begin operations in April.

Last year the Revenue was hit by massive delays in the payment of tax credits due to problems with its IT systems. In addition there were also problems with overpayment and numerous other complaints.

The additional 500 staff will swell the number of staff handling tax credit queries to more than 2,300 after 1,800 staff were taken on board last year.

Current IT partner EDS is due to lose its contract at the Revenue in June.
