Weir on point for Lloyds-HBOS merger

Helen Weir is in the driving seat for Lloyds TSB's merger with HBOS, in one of the toughest tests of her career to date.

At a deal briefing yesterday, Lloyds' head of retail banking fielded questions from analysts, and appears to be taking a leading role in efforts to combine the two banks.

'The greatest savings is actually in property savings,' she told analysts, who quizzed her on where the value lay in the merger.
