Ian Dyson could be in pole position for the CEO's job at Marks & Spencer after one of the most controversial boardroom shake-ups in the high street giant's history.

The company's chief exec Sir Stuart Rose has decided to become executive chairman later this year, leading to speculation as to who will eventually replace him as CEO.

M&S said that Dyson will assume Sir Stuart's day-to-day retail and HR responsibilities from 1 June.

Dyson's extra responsibilities are sure to make him a frontrunner when the company starts looking for a new chief exec.

Sir Stuart has decided to scale back his remit at M&S, but his decision to become executive chairman has generated corporate governance concerns from some quarters.
