The new management team at Northern Rock are 'non-doms,' it has emerged.
Ron Sandler, the executive chairman, was born in Zimbabwe. He carries a German passport, and he also owns a property in Wimbledon that is held in an offshore trust in Jersey, the Telegraph reported.
Ann Godbehere, the new finance director, is also thought to be a non-dom, having dual Canadian and British citizenship.
Paul Kenny, general secretary of the union GMB, said: 'The Chancellor has no alternative but to ask Mr Sandler to end his non-dom tax status and become a resident taxpayer.'
Robin Ashby, founder of the Northern Rock Small Shareholders' Group, was quoted in The Times saying: '[Shareholders] will look pretty much askance at what I'd deem to be tax exiles taking over their company.'
