John Connolly, UK senior partner and global chairman for Deloitte, earned £5.7m for the year, annual results released today reveal.
In addition to Connolly's 22% rise in salary, a further 650 partners at the firm pocketed an average of £970,000 for the year to 31 May.
Annual profits for the firm rose 16% to more than £650m, with revenues rising by 11% to £2.01bn.
Connolly's tenure at the firm began in 1999 and these latest results strengthen the chairman's reputation as the UK's highest-earning accountant.

Not met it myself
I am now 57 and unemployed.I had a daughter born to me just before taking finals as a postgraduate ACA-I failed twice ,having had to resort to my ( now former) husbands unmaried aunt to look after my child-who also needed to be nursed through measles-I have not been able to work since-women do have a much harder time than men and deserve love and support throughout their lives not just when they are young and attractive-from those like the above mentioned partners - who give much-get much-and indeed much more is still expected!
