HMRC becomes headmaster with online tax lessons for students

HM Revenue and Customs has launched an online scheme for secondary school students to learn about tax issues.
The resource will contain modules on income tax, national insurance and tax and society. Financial secretary to the Treasury Stephen Timms said it would help young people learn about how taxes contribute to society's needs.
'Nearly one million pupils leave education and enter the tax system each year. By gaining a better understanding of tax and national insurance, they will be much better prepared for their life ahead,' he said.

Discernment
The more discerning students may - perish the thought! - latch on to the notion that vast sums of our money are extracted from us only to be spent rather inefficiently in pursuit of outcomes which they might not agree to if they had the choice.
Though if they then determine that big government is not good then that would be a no doubt unwelcome but potentially valuable outcome of the exercise.
