Accountancy Age understands the club is focusing on its search for a chief executive who will decide whether a CFO is needed. Manager Arsene Wenger (right) this week revealed that the club was close to an appointment. Three months ago, Arsenal director Danny Fiszman announced the club had begun a search to replace MD Keith Edelman, and was likely to split the role into CEO and CFO jobs.
Football clubs often appoint finance-focused CEOs who acted as managers for
the back office.
The club’s current top finance head is group chief accountant Stuart Wisely, but
Edelman arranged the club’s restructuring of its debt for the building of its
Emirates stadium. A spokesman for Arsenal said the recruitment process was
‘ongoing’.-
