Southampton Leisure holdings administrators will fight the decision by the Football League to deduct points from the football club linked to the parent company.
Southampton Football club will be relegated from the Championship for breaching the league's insolvency rules.
The Football League docked the club ten points after the club's parent company Southampton Leisure Holdings entered administration. It decided after a review by Grant Thornton that the financial links between the two were so close that a ten point penalty was appropriate.
Administrators from Begbie Traynor said an 'incorrect conclusion had been reached', reported City AM. An appeal is expected to be launched.
If the club survives conventional relegation the league will deduct the pints for this season, which will relegate the club. If they are relegated by not gaining enough points, the penalty will apply to next season.
