Claimants have settled a £22m negligence suit against tax specialist Adrian Shipwright of Pump Court Tax Chambers and Baker Tilly.

The case is said to have been one of the biggest ever to be brought against a barrister, Legal Week reports.

The 75 claimants, including Terra Firma chief executive Guy Hands, notified Justice Briggs they had reached a settlement after confidential negotiations just before the four-week trial ended last July.

The claim, filed in the High Court in 2006, alleged Shipwright and Baker Tilly were negligent when advising the claimants about the available tax relief for investments in film finance schemes.
