The ICAEW has recruited its first south east Asian regional director, Mark Billington.
The institute hopes that Billington, previously chief executive officer in the Asia Pacific region for telecom company O2, will expand its presence in the international markets.
'It is very exciting to become the ICAEW's first regional director outside of the UK' said Billington.
He continued: 'A lot of work is going on in Singapore and the whole region to build its reputation as a significant capital market within the global economy and in developing the accounting profession.'
Billington, who trained with BDO Stoy Hayward, has held various management roles with O2 working in its Netherlands office. He has also held senior management roles with BT and was founder director and CEO of Mobile Wireless Group.
The ICAEW has approximately 1,800 members in the south east Asian region, with various academic institutions, such as Sunway University and Universiti Malaya, already conducting the institutes training.
The ICAEW signed an agreement with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Singapore to also offer the ACA.
