Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp could face a showdown this week with the taxman over his financial affairs.

Peter Crouch's transfer from Portsmouth to Aston Villa is believed to be one of the main focuses of HMRC's investigations, according to reports this weekend.

Redknapp, former Portsmouth owner Milan Mandaric and chief executive Peter Storrie are alleged to be under investigation by HMRC, reported the News of the World.

He strenuously denied any wrongdoing, and claimed to have paid £10m in income tax over the past ten years.

"They won't let it go even though I've got nothing to hide. And you know why? Because it's me. It's a matter of around £10,000 in tax they think I owe but which is in dispute," said Redknapp in the Sun.

"If it had been anyone else, a normal member of the public, they would have dropped it, or told them to pay up with a bit of interest and that would have been the end of the matter.

"But not with me and I'm getting sick of it.

"It's been two years and this is what it has come down to.

"They have wasted however many millions of pounds of taxpayers' money and this is all they have to show for it."
