Calls for global standard on carbon reporting grow

The ICAEW, Carbon Disclosure Standards Board, ACCA and CIPFA have joined forces with other institutes from around the world to urge political leaders to produce a single carbon reporting standard.

The institutes have written an open letter to the attendees of the Copenhagen global climate change summit, starting today, to produce a single set of standards for climate change related disclosures.

Michael Izza, chief executive of the ICAEW said: “We believe that a single reporting standard for climate change related disclosure related to financial performance and mainstream financial reports is only the beginning of the process that will promote the provision of more trusted, accurate and reliable information to investors and stakeholders enabling them to make better decisions and drive the scale of behavioural change necessary to achieve a low carbon economy.”

The unified group believes the government target of reducing carbon by 80% by 2050 (on 1990 levels), cannot be met without a standardised approach to reporting.

Richard Samans, managing director of the World Economic Forum, said: "The development of a single set of universal standards on climate change related disclosure will bring some welcome order to the communication challenges that inevitably occur as the discipline of climate change reporting evolves.

"The active involvement of the accounting profession is essential to achieving this standardisation,” he added.

Calls for global standard on carbon reporting grow

This entire argument is flawed as shown by the dissenting emails. The carbon reporting standard should be to eliminate all of the taxes and propoganda promoting the fact that the air that we exhale is a pollutant.

Enough!!

As a small business we just cannot continue to keep up with all the reporting requirements that we are expected to comply with. This is just another item that will trickle down to the small guy that isn't directly affected by it but will be forced to do the reporting.

EPA action is effort to take over economy

The left will do by fiat what they cannot do by legislation. There is considerable dissent surrounding the science of man made carbon "pollution" and the need for regulation and consequent taxes on carbon. Obama and the left would have us wear a mask to filter our exhaled breath. CPAs need to ensure that valid data is reported especially if this data is at odds with the politicially tainted EPA. The arrogance of this government increases by the day. CPAs can play a major role in ensuring that reporting is truthful and not massaged to fit the government message.

My throat is sore!

Not from any greenhouse gasses, but from having bureaucrats continue to shove unconstitutionally determined rules and regulations down our throats. This is not about saving the planet or about health care. This is about elite control of the populace. This will not stand! The move is on!

POWER GRAB!

This BLATANT Power Grab by the EPA reflects the Hussein Obama regime's contempt for American values! Almost as if HE were not an American.......?

Um...

Wendy, Galen, James, and Jeff: you are idiots. Get off your ideological high-horse and do some reading outside of Glenn Beck's manifesto. I was reading a nice article about a call for standardized global accounting rules and your venom was what I'm left with at the end. Get a life.

Get it right from the start

I would like to urge my friends and partners to just get it straight from the start of business, go green how a power house that is made from solar or wind and avoid the reporting. Rather report zero emission watch-out Africa is coming soon. It's High time we should all be responsible
