Accountancy Age Awards: Meddings wins Blue Chip FD accolade

Richard Meddings, finance director of Standard Chartered Bank and a member of the government’s crisis cabinet during the first bank bail out, has been named Blue Chip FD of the Year in the 2009 Accountancy Age Awards.

The judges said: “This has been an exceptional year for Richard. Not only has he played a great part in leading the bank from the front, but he has put his personal reputation on the line in advising government on how to handle the crisis.”

The awards were presented at a gala dinner at the Battersea Park Arena on Wednesday with almost 1,000 guests from across the profession.

Among other winners were Tony Lomas, the PwC partner in charge of the Lehmans administration, who was voted Personality of the Year by Accountancy Age readers, and Douglas Flint, group finance director at HSBC, who received the award for Outstanding Industry Achievement.

Other winners included BDO’s transfer pricing team in Tax Team of the Year, and KPMG for Audit Team of the Year.
