John Doyle, EC sustainable development policy coordinator, met members of the Business and Application Software Development Association at the first green Special Interest Group, which was attended by vendors such as Access Accounting, Aggresso and Sage.
Together they tried to highlight the importance software can make in accounting for a company’s volume of emissions.
Doyle asked BASDA members to consult on tackling the problem. ‘Being involved in this consultation process means that BASDA can help to proactively set the agenda before requirements are imposed on its members.’
Although technology only accounts for 2% of global emissions the EC wants to highlight that virtually all businesses in Europe use software. The consultation is open until 1 July.
