Deloitte CFO to step up after CEO Echevarria’s retirement

DELOITTE CFO Frank Friedman is to take the Big Four firm's chief executive post on an interim basis after present incumbent Joe Echevarria retires later this month, Reuters reports.

Friedman has served as CFO of Deloitte's US arm since 2011 and holds responsibility for the development of the firm's financial strategy, including capital, budgeting, planning, analysis, accounting, partner financial services, taxes, reporting and operations. He was made tax partner in 1992, before taking several office managing partner posts before joining the firm's executive committee in 2008.

Echevarria, who joined Deloitte in 1978, said: "I have determined that this is the right time in my life to pursue my passion for public service."

He will work with the My Brother's Keeper Initiative, set up by president Barack Obama this year to improve health, education and employment opportunities for black and Latino boys and young men.

Echevarria also serves on the president's Export Council, the main US national advisory committee on international trade, according to his bio on Deloitte's website. In 2013, he was a member of the Presidential Council on Election Administration.
