AMD takes £475m hit

Integration of ATI acquisition drags chip maker down

Chip maker AMD said it will take a $948m (£475m) hit for its second quarter due to its $5.4bn purchase of graphics chip maker ATI in 2006.

The firm has been struggling to compete with Intel.

Meanwhile, Intel's problems with graphics chip maker nVidia might be coming to an end. The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday saying that a licensing dispute going back to 2004 may be about to be resolved.
