Forty-one per cent of female IT professionals are not confident about their
career prospects, according to research from
womenintechnology.co.uk, the
online career and networking site.
And 65 per cent had no defined view of what they wanted to achieve in their
IT career, with many saying they don't know how to progress, or that they are
open to new prospects.
Concerns over employers attitudes towards working mothers were common among
attendees at an event hosted by the organisation.
The event aimed to help women develop their career opportunities, said Maggie
Berry, Director of womenintechnology.co.uk.
“The majority of the women believed they were the driver of their own success
with many updating their CV regularly on LinkedIn and speaking with management
so that others are aware of their achievements," she said.
"However, many cited difficulties in marketing themselves in this way."
"Our event aimed to give women some useful advice on successful career
strategies and hopefully those that attended are now more confident in their
ability to progress their careers in the IT industry.”
