AT&T adds capacity to global network

Carrier to spend $1bn on international upgrade

Global carrier AT&T is to invest $1bn (£501m) in expanding its international telecommunications network to support increased bandwidth and utility computing services.

The carrier will add new IP network nodes in Paris and Moscow, and roll out enhanced Ethernet global virtual private network (VPN) services to business customers throughout the US, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

AT&T currently delivers a range of services to UK customers over its network, including voice over IP (VoIP), VPNs, internet access and web hosting.

AT&T also plans to expand its sub-sea fibre optic cable capacity to Japan, Asia and Australia in order to accommodate growing volumes of network traffic.
