A new National Express airport
minibus shuttle is using a web service linked to real-time flight data to
provide accurate pick-up times to passengers.
Under the reservation and dispatch system, customers of the coach company’s
Dot2Dot service can book
door-to-door transport on customised routes to Heathrow and Gatwick.

The system links check-in needs with live information from airport systems.
It will also handle itinerary changes when Heathrow’s Terminal Five opens next
month, said National Express business development director Matthew Lovering.
“We are trying to make easier what is currently a stressful and difficult
journey,” said Lovering.
“The pick-up times on the site are based on flight information, check-in
requirements at the airport and drive time from the specified pick-up location.
“And with the move to Terminal Five, providing accurate information and
avoiding confusion will be a priority,” he said.
The booking system is fed by the airline schedules database, which provides
up-to-date information to Dot2Dot.
The service can be booked through a number of channels including tour
operators and concierges.
But online sales are a major growth area, said Lovering.
“Some 100 bookings are made every day via the site so we are pleased with the
initial response,” he said.
Consultancy for the project is being provided by
Concentra.
