Hitachi profit up tenfold

But the hardware manufacturer is still down £2.5m for the first three quarters of the year

Hitachi's profit surged by almost tenfold in the third quarter, rocketing 893 per cent to $110m (55.9m), but the firm still made a loss of $5m (£2.5m) for the nine months to December.

Revenue for the period was $23.7bn (£12bn), up 9 per cent year on year.

Sales for the first three quarters rose ten per cent to $70bn (£35bn).
