Barclaycard has unveiled the
name, design and web site of
its
smartcard that will combine contactless payment, credit card and travel
features.
The card allows passengers to make cashless payments of under £10 by waving
the card over a reader as well as acting as a travel pass through barriers at
London Underground stations. It will be launched in the autumn.
The OnePulse card has three separate functions; an Oyster smartcard for
travel on the tube, bus and some national rail services; ‘wave and pay’
technology for purchase of low-value items; and a standard chip-and-PIN credit
and debit card.
A deal between
Transport
for London, Barclaycard and
TranSys, the
consortium that delivers the Oyster smartcard, was signed last year to give
Barclaycard the exclusive rights for Oyster to be placed on its cards for the
next three years.
‘We wanted a brand name that conveyed the sense of energy that runs through
the city while highlighting the card’s unique three-in-one feature,’ said
Barclaycard chief marketing officer Elizabeth Chambers.
‘We believe Barclaycard OnePulse is the future of payments in London and hope
as many Londoners as possible enjoy the benefits when it is rolled out in the
autumn.’
The combined card will deliver added value to Barclaycard customers without
disrupting the Oyster service which has become a part of London life, said
TranSys chief executive John Stout.
