Confectionary giant Nestlé has extended a services contract with BT to develop and manage its wide area network.

Under the terms of the three year extension, BT will deliver and manage a virtual private network that will connect more than 1,000 Nestlé sites around the world.

The network will be based on multi-protocol label switching services and will provide multimedia voice and video functions.

'This contract will mark more than 15 years of relationship with Nestlé, initiated through BT Infonet,' said François Barrault, chief executive of BT Global Services.

The agreement also covers the management of secure inbound and outbound internet traffic using BT’s managed firewall service.
