7digital is now offering music in MP3 format from all four major music labels.
Around four million tunes taken from EMI, Sony BMG, Warner Brothers and Universal catalogues are now free of Digital Rights Management (DRM) software
Users can play purchased tracks across any music devices including iPods, iPhones, Blackberries, MP3 players and mobile phones. Tracks can also be copied between any number of devices legally.
7Digital also said that it would be emailing customers who have previously bought music in WMA format so they can upgrade these tracks to an MP3 free of charge.
The music download service is also offering two free albums for download. The first features a sample of artists from EMI Music’s catalogue and the second is a selection of top acts from the 7Digital Indiestore.
It is also offering people the opportunity to download selected albums from £2 from artists including Queen, The Magic Numbers, We Are Scientists and Sigur Rós.
7Digital chief executive officer Ben Drury said: “Consumers see DRM as somewhat of a hindrance when purchasing legal digital music. The availability of all of the big four music labels in high-quality MP3 is fantastic news for the UK music fan – everything they now buy from us they can be sure will work on all their devices.”
