Verdict

Not for everyone, but this could be a great mouse alternative if you do a lot of photo editing

You don't have to be a graphic artist to justify a graphics tablet. Many people find that the pen and work surface combination is much more intuitive to work with than a mouse, particularly for drawing, handwriting and photo editing.

But, while many professional tablets can be large, cumbersome affairs, Trust's discrete BT446 is small, neat and, thanks to its Bluetooth compatibility, completely wire-free, with a range of up to 10 metres.

Artists might find the 4.5 x 6in workspace a little restrictive, but it's a perfect size for home users, while the dark grey and silver styling is fairly suave.

Both the pen and the tablet run on batteries, but a USB cable is provided, which also helps if you need to switch to a non-Bluetooth compatible PC.

Working with a tablet and pen doesn't suit everyone and requires a certain amount of forgetting how you've interacted with computers thus far. The BT446 is also a tad expensive - particularly since there's no Bluetooth adapter included.

If your PC isn't Bluetooth-ready, you'll also have to pay for the appropriate upgrade. Still, those who get frequently frustrated when working with a mouse may well find this wireless alternative a liberation.
