Competition for newly graduates gets tougher

The number of students applying for graduate positions this year is still on the rise

There may be a skills gap and graduate salaries are still on the up, but it doesn't look as if university leavers will find it easy to get a decent job, as competition is hotting up.

Big Four firm Deloitte has recorded a 22% jump in the number of students applying for graduate positions this year.

After opening for applications three months early, it has already received 2,400 applications for 1,400 vacancies, and this is likely to rise even further.
