FRC reveals ICAEW numbers falling

The ICAEW may still be considered the premier accountancy institute, but it seems fewer people want to sign up

Written by Paul Grant

Recent figures from the Financial Reporting Council reveal that membership of the ICAEW in the UK and Ireland fell between 2005 and 2006, while membership numbers at rival institutes actually grew.

The findings also show an aging membership, with over half the ICAEW's worldwide membership aged over 45 compared with a much younger demographic for the likes of CIMA and ACCA. Looks like it's time for the ICAEW to show its youthful side.
