This was the situation in which accounting firm Baker Tilley recently found itself.
Having been appointed receiver to a major importer of pre-cut Indian granite, the firm found itself lumbered with two acres worth of tombstones.
Louise Brittain, business recovery partner, says: 'The trouble you face selling 120 artic loads of headstones is that for individuals they are a long-term investment. You can't do "buy one get one free" either.'
Brittain says she now plans to flog the cache as a job lot to one of the firm's competitors. And she remains upbeat about her chances. 'It's not a dead market,' she claims.
