Boxing can be a risky sport, financially as well as physically. As Chris Eubank discovered last month, you may first become a celebrity and earn loads of dosh but later, the size of your paycheck shrinks and if you don't modify your spending habits, you land yourself in trouble with the likes of Louise Brittain snapping at your heels.
And now, it seems Mike Tyson has bitten off more than he can chew (not literally of course, he's already done that one). The former heavyweight champion declared himself bankrupt last week with debts of around £16m.
Besides the £8.3m he owes his own taxman, 'Iron' Mike owes the Inland Revenue £2.4m.
It's hardly surprising when the man spends £105,000 on a piece of jewellery and £5,000 on the care of Bengal tigers. Overall, it is estimated he has squandered more than £180m.
The question is, will Sir Nick Montagu be able to confront the boxer and persuade him to pay? If the Revenue decides to appoint Brittain to act for them, our money will not be on Tyson.
