Policymakers shaping proposals for a statutory residence test in the wake of legal boosts
Tax policymakers are fine-tuning plans to harden the rules on residency for
super-rich tax exiles
after
tycoon Robert Gaines-Cooper failed to convince a court he was a
non-resident.
The Treasury is paving the way for a “statutory residency test” which could
affect super-rich individuals living abroad but still claiming links with the
UK.
A government source told
the
Guardian: “The government is considering the feasibility of introducing a
statutory residence test and is working with external stakeholders to explore
options.”
