Written by Rachael Singh

Accountancy software got the thumbs up from environmentalist by scooping both the first and second prize at the annual Green Apple Environment Awards at the House of Commons.

Version One took the top gong and was branded 'Green Champion' for its DbMail product, which reduces the need for postage in the finance function while still providing an audit trail linked directly to customers accounting systems.

COA Solutions bagged second place with its eBis Workflow System which eliminates paper usage for collection, handling and auditing of financial documentation.

Mark Thompson, managing director of COA Solutions said: 'It's important for software to address both the business and environmental issues that face organisations today.'

'It makes neither business nor environmental sense to continue with paper-dominated processes' he added.

COA, formerly CedarOpenAccounts acquired Version One in April 2007.

The Green Organisation which is the company which runs the awards is an independent business established in 1994 and recognises and promotes environmental best practice.
