GT’s Luder crowned Lord Mayor

As many as 300,000 people turned out to see Grant Thornton partner Ian Luder take his place as Lord Mayor of London on Saturday

Written by Alex Hawkes

Some 151 floats took part in the procession, including those representing the Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Worshipful company of tax advisers and Grant Thornton itself. Elected on 29 September, Luder officially became Lord Mayor on Friday in a silent ceremony held at the Guildhall.

The ceremony has been taking place for 784 years, after King John allowed the City of London to have a Mayor, on condition that the Mayor was annually presented to the monarch for approval, and so that the Mayor could ‘swear fealty’. Luder is the 681st Lord Mayor, and will continue to be a tax partner at GT in his spare time.
