3i is
promoting deputy group FD Julia Wilson to the top finance role after Simon Ball
announced he would step down from the end of November.
The appointment makes Wilson one of just two female FDs in the FTSE100. The
other is Jann Brown who was promoted from within to take the FD’s post at oil
company Cairn Energy in 2006.
Wilson joined 3i as deputy in January 2006, having served as group director
of corporate finance at Cable & Wireless where she worked from 2000.
Ball said he was ‘proud’ of 3i’s achievements over the last four years but
ready for a new role.
‘The time is now right for me to take on some new challenges. I am delighted
for Julia and wish both her and 3i every success for the future,’ said Ball.
Philip Yea, 3i’s chief executive, said Ball had made a ‘significant
contribution’ to reshaping 3i.
