Cains Brewery has gone into administration after failing to pay its tax bill

Liverpool-based Cains Brewery has been unable to negotiate a loan agreement with the Bank of Scotland in an effort to pay off its tax bill after it had already experienced a drop in profits because of rising costs and the smoking ban.

PricewaterhouseCoopers is currently working with the company to ensure the brewery and its chain of pubs stay open while a new buyer is sought, according to Manufacturer.

‘Cains is a well-established business with a great brand and brewing facility which has been brewing ales since the mid-19th century,’ said PwC partner and joint administrator David Chubb.

‘We have already received some early indications of interest and we would also invite any parties interested...to contact us as soon as possible,’ he said.
