Recent research has revealed that almost one in two accountancy staff is at risk from data theft in the UK.

The findings from Ulysses, a computer support company, show that due to out of date web browsers accountancy firms are at risk of have confidential information stolen.

Peter Turner, technical director at Ulysses, said: 'If you don't keep your computer up-to-date it is easier for a piece of malicious software, known as malware, to install itself and transfer data from your computer over the web.'

Accountants can keep their computers up to date with various free downloads that are updated around twice a year.

'Managers of accountancy firms should stay aware of when browsers are being updated and take time to protect their company' added Turner.
