The Organisation of Economic Co-operation & Development (OECD) council has approved the 2008 update of the OECD model tax convention, which is left largely unchanged, but proposed a number of useful clarifying changes.

According to Tax-News.com reports the contents of the 2008 update result primarily from previous reports and includes a number of technical changes.

The update also contains some changes and additions to the observations, reservations and positions of member and non-member countries.

The OECD model tax convention, incorporating the contents of the update, is expected to be released at the beginning of September, in time for the OECD Conference on the 50th Anniversary on the OECD model tax convention.
