Hands on witness stand in film tax case

Terra Firma boss Guy Hands to take stand this week in tax negligence suit

Guy Hands is expected to appear on the witness stand this week in a high-profile negligence action against Baker Tilly and barrister Adrian Shipwright.

Hands, his wife Julia and 70 other investors are suing their accountants over film tax schemes that did not ultimately provide the tax relief they had anticipated.

The claim is for £22m.

Christopher Symons, QC, acting for the investor group, told the court last week that the scheme appeared 'too good to be true' but investors rushed to sign up because it had been rubber approved by Baker Tilly and Mr Shipwright, The Times reported.
