ACCA awards focus on learning

Enteries have opened for the 13th ACCA Sustainability Awards, sponsored by KPMG

Written by Barbara Buchanan

Equal education and learning opportunities in the work place is this year’s theme for ACCA’s awards for the best non-financial reporting.

‘A company report should be much more than just numbers. So for this year’s theme – human capital management – we will be looking at examples of good practice
in this area, looking for transparency and clarity,’ says Rachel Jackson, head of social and environmental issues at ACCA.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) will be reviewing
the entrants for human capital management disclosures. The judging panel, which includes senior representatives from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF UK), Morley Fund Management, and the FTSE Group – will look for credible reports, communicated effectively.

Entries are now open for the 2008 Sustainability Awards sponsored by KPMG, which have been held by ACCA over the last 15 years in more than 13 countries.

Any organisation can participate, with any number of employees from both the public and private sector.

Last year’s ACCA Sustainability winner was BT with Unilever as the runner-up. BT was awarded first place because its report offered truly transparent disclosures on its overall strategy, along with the key corporate and social responsibility risks and opportunities for the business.

The deadline for submissions is 27 June 2008 and award winners will be
decided by September 2008.
