Cameron lays down tax gauntlet to Brown

Tory leader renews calls for sweeping changes to be made to the UK's tax framework at the Institute of Directors' Annual Convention

David Cameron has laid down the gauntlet to Gordon Brown on tax at a high- profile summit meeting.

Cameron called for the Prime Minister to make sweeping changes to be made to the current framework including a cut to the main rate of corporation tax to 25p.

The Tory leader, who is working closely with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Grant Thornton to hammer out a tax simplification plan for British businesses, issued the challenge at the Institue of Directors Annual Convention yesterday.

His comments came after Gordon Brown had addressed the 3,000 strong crowd at the Royal Albert Hall where he hinted that the corporate tax burden could be eased in the future, offering a 'commitment that when possible, we will cut tax'.
