Clementi heads up Rio Tinto audit committee

Former Bank man takes over Rio Tinto audit supervision

Former deputy governor of the Bank of England Sir David Clementi is to head up the audit committee for mining giant Rio Tinto.

Sir David replaces Andrew Gould who moves to become senior independent director and chair the remuneration committee.

The changes have been prompted by the retirement of Sir Richard Sykes.

Currently chairman of Prudential, Sir David and was deputy governor of the Bank from 1997 to 2002 and was there when it was made independent by Gordon Brown.
